movie review of the Matrix
The Matrix Revolution Review By Tobias OrfantOctober 2003
SummaryMatrix Revolutions starts with our hero Neo (Keanu Reeves) lying in a pristine and clean subway station. He is caught between the matrix and reality, in a place that is controlled by the trainman (Bruce Spence). It takes a "Bullet time" fight scene, full of guns and martial arts from Morpheus, (Laurence Fishburne) Trinity, (Carrie-Anne Moss) & Seraph (Collin Chou) to strike a deal with Merovingian (Lambert Wilson) and his big busted wife Persephone (Monica Bellucci), to save Neo.The machines have plans to invade the last human city Zion. Their plan is to dig down and breach the dome that surrounds the city. The humans arm themselves with Battle bots to form a final stand against the machines. An outrageous CGI war occurs between the Battle bots and the vicious whip lashing octopi sentinels. Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith) pilots a ship with dare devil maneuvers towards Zion to help fight this final battle. Neo decides that he must go to the to machine city, and with the help of Trinity they travel towards this mechanical city. There is a good action scene that involves Neo fighting off the wave of defense machine using his mind and then after heartbreak he meets The Architect (Helmut Bakaitis) leader of the machines and convinces him that the computer virus known as Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) has grown to strong even for the machines to control. Neo declares that tonight shall be the end. In a literal weightless fight between Neo and Agent Smith a CGI superman fight occurs, which ends the movie.
Review I found The Matrix Revolutions to be a disappointment to fans. Fans are likely to be breathing of sighs of disappointment, not satisfaction. The ending raises more questions then it answers. The first Matrix had an excellent introduction to the ultimate plot, which is life, as we know it is an illusion, and artificial-reality, a Matrix designed by computers to distract our minds while they imprison our bodies and use them to provide battery fuel. I discovered irony in how humans are occupying a world generated by computers, and yet the movie consists of actors occupying a world also created by computers. I also found a similarity that the central characters must split up and face their own challenges and face their own enemies, while the main characters travel to the source of evil. Sounds like Froto and Sam to me. Another point I had was, if this is an advanced culture why are humans still using machineguns? All in all I give The Matrix Revolutions a grade of B-, what saved this movie from total failure doom, was the reputation of the first, and fan loyalty. The CGI's and other special effects were the most impressive aspect of the movie. And the lovely scene from Persephone at least open the eyes of the audience for all of 20 seconds, with her skintight outfight and plastic surgery. Personally I am looking forward to Return of the King, as this winters best movie. J
