How good is the evidence?
In last week's column of The Right Track in The Clock, our columnist refers to websites where he gets his information, and through his column he states his sources and they are all internet sources. Do internet sources really show true validity? Is this information believable? Can we actually fully trust all information that we get off the internet? No. Plain and Simple. There are many websites out there that are completely false and have absolutely no validity to them at all. You never know what to believe anymore. But back onto his sources; At the end of the column he states two more sources that he used, one of them caught my eye and I realized that this site was from a persons personal blog site (http://moonagewebdream.blogs.com/moonage_political_webream/2004/09/kerry_and_the_d.html), or in other words, their online journal. This cannot be taken as true if it is another persons opinion that probably shares the opinions of the writer of the column. Maybe our columnist should think about that a little more often when he is writing his column for our school paper The Clock. I always thought that my sociology teacher was wise, so I use her words now "Use the sources I gave you." When she told us this she was speaking on the terms of using journals from the library. Books are more factual then the internet. I am happy that the Columnist used sources and it had been irritating me in the past that he has not cited his sources, but he needs to look at the real question.. "How Good is the Evidence?" He should know this, because speaking to him in the past I had come to find out he is a first-year like myself, which means he is currently enrolled in the first-year seminar. So I suggest to him, take 2 minutes out of your time, and read chapters 8 and 9 in the first section of our seminar book, and use more appealing and valid, true evidence.
