The Right Track Gone Wrong
Dear Editors,
I am commenting on Dustin Siggins column, the Right Track, that appeared in issue 10/29/04. In this clearly biased column Mr. Siggins tries to convince us to vote for Bush. Oh sorry, he doesn't try to convince us, he forces his opinion down upon us. Now I don't mind people telling me why I should vote for someone and in doing so giving me information on both candidates. However I do not enjoy someone forcing their opinion on me and literally telling me to vote for a candidate I loath.
I know I am not the only person who feels the same about Dustin's article or articles. As I go up to the Clock I hope to read news that brings in all aspects of the argument. However, Mr. Siggins has shut out all other pieces of information that could balance out his arguments. Siggins continues to use biased language and his "blatantly skewed and biased statistics", (The Clock Vol 50 Issue No 6 p9), his reporting shows no improvement and frankly I don't see any coming in the future.
When people go to read a newspaper they expect to hear both sides of the story. If you want to make a good article then bring in John Kerry's views on tax cuts, or Kerry's views on Iraq. The only times that John Kerry's opinions were even brought into context in the article was on what I believe is Paragraph 3 sentence 2, "George Bush is against abortion, while Kerry supports it." This was also preceded by, "To me abortion is murder equivalent to taking a newborn and dropping it into the trash", (The Clock Vol 50 issue No 6 pg 3.).
Also, Dustin, where are your statistics coming from? I have successfully cited every quote that I have put in this letter. Where is your proof that "75% of military overseas is supporting Bush", which is located in Paragraph 4. Where did you get that statistic? What if the statistic were from people who were all officers who never saw combat? What if they were all Republican soldiers?
I could go on and on about the false statistics involving that particular column. All in all I just want to point out that you can't go around "lying" or forcing your opinion on people, the only thing I agreed with in his article is that we all should vote and that we can change the course of our nation and shapes our politics.
