11th Annual Cancer Walk brings community together
On Saturday September 25, Keeping You, Me, and Memories Alive held their 11th annual "Day to Fight Cancer" walk in front of the Plymouth State University PE center. The day consisted of face painting, sponsored walking, live music, food and fun.
The event was hosted by the PSU Athletics, and had some help from other student organizations on campus. The Japanese Culture and Animation club helped out by hosting face painting for children participating in the walk. Julia Nichols, a member of the organization, said, "We wanted to help out by doing some face painting for the children who were doing the walk today."
Walkers consisted of many folks, from little children to college students.
Diane Tiffany, a board director member for the organization, helped to organize the event and was excited about the turnout of participants and volunteers. "We have this event once a year, to raise quite a bit of money, and we have PSU athletes here today, and Plymouth and Campton Elementary Schools, and lots of local townspeople," Tiffany said.
Gaming club joined the cause as well by providing fun board games for children to play. Other events hosted throughout the day included free food and even juggling lessons and a dunk booth.
Keeping You, Me, and Memories Alive is a local organization that helps to provide care and support for PSU students and local towns people who are struggling with cancer either themselves or with a loved one.
The event, which started at noon, lasted until 10pm concluding with tea light bags, designed by donators and walkers, lining the walkway out of the PE center, and spelling out "HOPE" in the bleachers.
"It's a great coming together of the university and the town for a common good," said Tiffany who is just as excited for next year's walk, which will be held on October 1st.
