Everyone Enabled with iOS7
Apple released its new iOS7 to the public on Sept. 18, 2013 just before revealing their two new iPhones (the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C).
"They did a real nice overhaul of the look and feel of the whole layout. There are some really good features that they needed to add like the control center," stated Chad Johansen, President of NH iPhone Repair, and senior ITS Associate.
Aside from the fact that the appearance changes solely to a white theme, thinned modern lines, and high contrasted color pallets on every icon, there are lot more interesting features the iOS7 has to offer iPhone users, with the exception of iPhones prior to the fourth generation.
"I love the iOS7 because of the different setup and how organized it is!" said Sophomore Olivia Leon.
Like in previous versions of iOS, double clicking the home button at the bottom of the phone will show all of the Apps that are currently open. Simply swipe the app icon up on the screen to close the app.
The Compass App has been a feature of the iPhone for some time now, and has been updated with an added little extra too-a spirit level. It can be used to balance out shelves or to check if a table is level or not by placing the phone on a surface. The bubbles will then move to show how flat and level it is
The app icons themselves lie on the screen differently too, "It makes the apps look like they're three dimensional now, its sort of trippy," commented junior Katlyn Hall.
iOS7 will also allow users to store passwords, account names and even credit card numbers in the iCloud and will then automatically fill them in when signing in to a website or online shop.
"Everything just flows better, like between apps and pages and websites, the only thing I'd say I don't really like is the whiteness, it hurts my eyes sometimes," stated Junior Kate Banys.
With this software update photos are organized in new ways, allowing them to be grouped by date, location and collections. Some of the collections include panorama photos, which only show your panoramic pictures. One's camera roll also have new features to it, "all of the photos I take are now saved by date and location, its like they are put into their own little albums for me," added Hall.
Another neat hidden feature in the camera App will allow users to focus without having to tap the screen. Simply hold down the volume down button for a second and the iPhone will auto focus on the area inside the square. Press the volume up button and take a picture, just like a real camera.
Apple is also offering a new way to share media with people nearby using the new feature called Airdrop. To use this feature go to your photo albums and there will be an "airdrop" option. The only way for it to work is if the people around you also turn on Airdrop from their Control Center.
iTunes Radio will allow users to stream radio stations on their iPhone and iPad, along with other Apple devices. Users can organize the music based on preferred artists, songs and genres.
Apple claims iTunes Radio will learn users preferences, tweaking the music and stations it offers according to what they have listened to in the past, "I like the fact how we have the radio now and how it's all one swipe away to get to where you want to go," said Sophomore Olivia Leon.
At the touch of a button, users will be able to turn on the LED flash on the back of the phone. The flashlight button can be accessed through the new control center.
An all new control center - just swipe upwards on any screen and a new pane will appear allowing you to control Wi-Fi, Timer, Calculator, Camera, Bluetooth, switch on Airplane mode, adjust the brightness of the screen and play or skip music.
In iOS7, Apple has moved the "Do Not Disturb" function to the Control Centre, meaning it can be accessed and switched on far more easily. Simply touch the little half moon button if you'd like to not be bothered by emails, messages and phone calls for the time being.
Schedules can also be set up through the Notifications setting menu, when you scroll downward, you can also view your missed calls, and browse today's notifications and events.
This software also offers a new way to search on the iPhone by simply swiping down on the home screen will open a search box and the keyboard, allowing you to search without having to swipe to a dedicated screen as in previous versions of the software.
The iOS7 feature really takes "swiping" to a whole new level, you can get to apps, upon apps by simply swiping a finger, and it opens texts and answers calls. The act of clicking is completely old news.
"I suggest that anyone hesitant to upgrading to do it. Apple always makes it easy to get adjusted to an upgrade," said Johansen.
