wal mart sucks
I have been concerned with the behavior of an associate at the Plymouth Supercenter, where I am employed. I, as well as many other associates, feel that we are being unfairly treated by a Loss Prevention associate named Jeff. Jeff seems to think that he "owns us" and therefore has the right to treat us like ( for lack of a better word) crap. I had an incident with him most recently on December 23rd. I was shopping in the store for last minute gifts with my girlfriend (who works there as well). We were in the checkout aisle paying when I realized my girlfriend had bought the wrong type of cigarettes. So, as CSM's have told us to do, I went into the cigarette section and exchanged packs. Any associate who smokes, will tell you that they have been instructed to do so by CSM's (wether off-the-clock or not). As I was coming out with my cigarettes, Jeff was standing near the booth watching me. I started to walk over to the register when he approached me and yelled "hey you, come here now". I replied firmly, "no, I'm off the clock, you come here", and motioned over to the register we were at. He walked over and asked what I was doing in there, and I told him I was getting cigarettes. I then told him I was paying for my cigarettes and that I didn't want to deal with his attitude today. He replied" Do you wanna play that game? Cause I'll play that game and win". I replied "whatever". He then chuckled to himself and ran off and came back with Head CSM Lisa. We finished paying and were walking away when he walked back over with Lisa. Jeff turned to me and asked "what did you do wrong". I replied with "I have no idea what you're talking about". I then looked over to Lisa and told her "I just went to switch a pack of cigarettes when he comes out of no where and starts yelling at me". Jeff then turned to me and stated that I "knew what I was doing was wrong" and that he "saw it in my facial expression that I was getting caught". I turned to Lisa and said "this guy is an idiot". I started getting angry and started speaking to him loudly and motioning with my hands, when he added that " the next time you put your hands in my face, I'm going to break them off". At this point, I lost control of my mouth, and told him to f**k himself and other things. I then turned to leave and started walking out with my girlfriend. On my way out, I decided to go talk to Co-Manager Charlie about what just happened. I walked in the managers office to find Jeff in there already. I walked in hearing Jeff tell Charlie "he needs to be fired". I asked Charlie if we could talk alone, but Jeff had walked right in behind us. I started trying to tell Charlie what happened, but was constantly interrupted by Jeff yelling "no, that's wrong", or "no, that's not what happened". Jeff also kept saying that everything I said was losing me my job and kept telling me I was fired, and that he would still have his job no matter what. Jeff also accused me of being insubordinate in my job. For one thing, I wasn't on the clock, it had nothing to do with my job. Secondly, I don't think he knows what the word means because it didn't fit in with the situation. He was going to have me fired for insubordination of my job. I don't understand how that can happen from something that happened while I was not working. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that he brought up an issue he had with my girlfriend during a "meeting" with Charlie and I. I believe that it's store policy not to discuss one associate's issues with another associate. And I stated that to Jeff, and he just turned and looked away. Jeff stated that he thought our issues resulted from him upsetting my girlfriend, when it has nothing to do with that, and he shouldn't have even brought it up. Charlie stated that this is how loss prevention deals with people, and I replied "so there's no respect for the individual?". Charlie replied "somewhat, to a point". I then made the decision that I should write to you and let you know what was going on. I feel that associates are getting wrongly harassed by a man who is promising bodily harm if we do not do things exactly the way he wants them done. Honestly Matt, I think he is intimidating to associates and handling situations improperly. I know of other associates who have had similar incidents with Jeff, but are afraid to come forward because of his job title. They are worried they will lose their jobs over it. Most of us feel as if we are being watched for any small mistake, which Jeff could turn into us losing our jobs. I feel as if you are the best associate to handle this matter in whichever way you can. I thank you for taking time to listen and try to help. I know if we all just work together, not against each other, we can make this an awesome place to work and shop! Customers can tell if our associates are unhappy! Thank you again!
